Halloween Cookie Snack Board

I truly cannot process that this year is almost over. The past two years have been quite a whirlwind for all of us and this fall and holiday season, I plan to try to focus on what matters most- our family - and that means baking and crafting and getting cozy on the couch with all of our favorite movies.

Seriously, who does not LOVE cookies!? A super fun way to display all of your spooky Halloween baked goods is to display them on a board… that you also load with candy. Because Halloween means sugar!! What else could be more fun for a simple Halloween party or movie night!?

Start with a Seasonal Board

To know what cookies will fit best on your cookie snack board, you first need a board. I have used cutting boards before just to have something to hold everything. But there are so many fun cheese boards out there that make the perfect display for your cookies and treats! You can also find some festive ones. My absolute favorite board was this pumpkin one from Martha Stewart, which is great for fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving! I have not been able to find this one again to share with you all, and I have included a few of my favorites in my ShopMy for you to search through. Note: Usually, I have found the best ones when in places like Homegoods, where there are always more unique finds!!

Cut out Halloween Sugar Cookies with Simple Frosting

Our favorite Sugar Cookie recipe with a simple frosting is perfect for getting creative with your little ones. the best part about this recipe is there is no need to chill the dough! So we can get started rolling out the cookies right away.

Simple Frosting for Sugar Cookies

3- 4 tablespoons of softened butter

1 cup powdered (confectioners) sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

1-2 tablespoons milk (you may need more depending on consistency)

Food Dye (we use natural food coloring, orange, yellow, and green are ideal, then keeping some white!)

Triple Chocolate Monster Cookies

These are super easy and insanely delicious chocolate cookies. It took me some time to perfect this recipe, but now that I have, there is no other chocolate base for a cookie I could ever use. This is a fun one to include the kids in, too. Have them put the sprinkle eyes on the dough once it is on the cookie sheet. When they bake, it is fun to see how they spread out and what kind of monsters they create.

Spider Cookies

These are the perfect addition to a Halloween Cookie Board. They add some extra spookiness and character to the display. I love it when the cookies have these extra 3D elements; kids go crazy over them! They also love to get involved to make them! I have seen these made with the peanut butter cup and also the Lindt Chocolate Balls! So you can change it up depending on the size and shape of the spider.

S’mores

I know, technically this is NOT a cookie, but is the best addition to any fall-themed board! Plus they are fun for the kids to make.

Pro S’more Tip: Get the chocolate bars from Trader Joe’s. The chocolate is so much creamier than Hershey’s!

Add your favorite candy & Treats

This is really a personal preference on what you want to add. I know some people will add savory items or even fruit. I gave a few of our favorites, but the fun of this is you get to make it the way you want!

Trader Joe’s Ghost Chips or Veggie Ghost Snacks

Utz Halloween Pretzels

Gummy Worms (regular & sour)

Marshmallows

Candy corn or pumpkins

Halloween-colored M&M’s

Candy Eye Sprinkles and Gummies

Make a Spooky Snack Mix

Halloween Chex Mix

This is a great addition to fill in the gaps on the board. Chex mix, savory or sweet is always a hit. Try our favorite sweet and salty Muddy Buddies Spooky Popcorn Chex Mix recipe here.

Assemble your Board

Finally, it is time to assemble your board, there is no real direction on this, it’s just about having fun. I know people post all of these pretty and extravagant things online all of the time. You can see below, mine is rather simple. I let the kids get involved and have fun with it. This isn’t a let’s make this glamourous and make a post or reel about it on Instagram. It is about having some good ol’ family fun, letting it be messy and creative and all of the things our kids really need!

My only tip would be to try to fill in the spaces as much as you can with goodies - and HAVE FUN in the process!
