Fall is Finally Here 🍂

It is seriously my favorite time of the year. Okay, well, almost my favorite (the lead-up to Christmas probably takes the top spot for me!). But this season carries its own kind of magic and I am absolutely here for it.

One of my favorite ways to bring those cozy autumn vibes into our home is with scent. Essential oils are such a fun tool for that — we use them for DIY cleaning products, room sprays, and diffusers.

But if you’re not into oils, don’t worry. You can scroll down to the bottom for two of my favorite fall stovetop potpourri recipes (basically fall in a pot!). Each recipe can be kept going for a couple of days, just top off with water and re-simmer. Pro tip: don’t forget to turn off the stove before bed!

Cozy Fall Scents

Finding Balance Between Candles & Essential Oils

By now, many of us know that artificial fragrances can cause things like headaches, allergies, or hormone disruption (I’ve personally dealt with those migraines!). But I’m also a big believer in balance — joy matters just as much as wellness. Sometimes that joy looks like leaning into the cozy comforts we love, whether that’s lighting a candle, plugging in an electronic one for ambiance, or diffusing a favorite fall essential oil blend.

A note on candles: I’ll be the first to say it — I love candles. They’re nostalgic, cozy, and nothing sets the mood quite like them on darker evenings. I even keep a few “not-so-natural” ones around because they bring me joy (and let’s be real, none of us do everything perfectly!). If you want that candle glow without the open flame, a candle warmer lamp is such a game-changer — you get the same gentle light and scent without the smoke or safety worries. And for everyday coziness, I also love electronic candles for that flickering vibe with zero stress.

If you are looking for a lower-tox option, essential oils are such a beautiful way to bring in those cozy fall scents. Here’s why I love them:

Aromatherapeutic Benefits of Essential Oils

Essential oils can support your mood — some blends help you unwind after a long day, while others bring a sense of calm to your home.

Custom Fall Essential Oil Blends

Mix and match oils to create your perfect autumn blend — think Pumpkin Spice, Autumn Woods, or Cozy Chai. It’s easy to craft diffuser blends that feel uniquely you.

Longer Lasting Than Candles

When diffused, essential oils often last longer than traditional candles, which means you get more value with each use.

A Safer Way to Enjoy Cozy Fall Scents

No open flames needed — perfect if you have kids or pets. You can use a diffuser, reed sticks, or even a simple pot simmer for that same cozy vibe without worry. At the end of the day, it’s not about being “perfectly low-tox.” It’s about creating a home that feels safe, cozy, and joy-filled — however that looks for you.

I’ve also tried Revive Oils and really like their Vanilla oil (a little goes a long way). They offer free shipping as well, so you can grab just one bottle without extra costs.

STOVE TOP POTPOURRI

CLASSIC SEASONAL AROMA

This is perfect for Fall and Christmas. The recipe I use is per 3 quarts of water. If you were to use a 6 quart pot you want to double the ingredients. NOTE:: some people are more sensitive to clove, so gauge what the right amount is for you and your family!

1 Orange Sliced

2 Cinnamon Sticks

1 Tbsp Cloves

1 Tbsp Vanilla oil or extract

STOVE TOP POTPOURRI

WARM APPLE PIE

2 Cups Water

1 Cup Apple Juice (this is great if you have extra apple juice your kids haven’t finished just use here!)

1 Orange, squeeze juice into pot, then add the remaining orange (I found that juicing brings out more of the smell than just putting the orange in the pot; you can also zest first!)

1 apple- cut into chunks

1/2 Tablespoon Vanilla

1 Tablespoon Clove (whole)

1 Tablespoon Pumpkin Pie Spice

2 Cinnamon Sticks
