Easy Valentine’s Day Treats For Kids
Before I had kids, I really wasn’t huge on Valentine’s Day. My husband actually is the one person who brought me around to enjoying the day and then after our little ones got a little bigger, we started to make Valentines Day a family-focused time.
We’d cook a nice dinner together, make a simple dessert, and watch a movie. Some years we’d buy them a cute little treat or small present, and other years we didn’t — we just let it be a cozy, family-centered evening.
We like to keep things focused on all of us while the kids are little. Nothing over the top, just intentional time together.
The treats I am sharing today are perfect for your own, at home Valentin’es Day celebration with kids, but you could also use any of these for the festive school parties or if you are looking for red and pink desserts!
Dye-Free Baking Staples For Your Pantry
If you’re like me, you’ve probably noticed just how much red shows up around Valentine’s Day. While we don’t stress about perfection, I do like having dye-free options on hand so I can feel good about what we’re making at home (*most of the time*)
Here are a few staples that make dye-free Valentine baking easier:
Natural food coloring powders
Look for food coloring used with naturally dyed ingredients, such as beets. These give a soft pink or red hue without artificial dyes.Unsweetened cocoa powder
Perfect for chocolate frosting or brownies when you want festive without color, and allows you to adjust for the amount of sugar you want to use.Freeze-dried fruit powders
Strawberry or raspberry powder adds color and flavor to frosting, yogurt, or glaze without any of the harsh chemicals you can find in other powders.White chocolate or melts without artificial dyes
Always check labels! But white melting chocolate from Ghiradelli is fantasti to use as a base. You can also get dye-free color melts, like these bright pink ones from the brand SuperNatural!Dye-Free Sprinkles
More and more brands are coming out with dye-free baking alternatives! Check Trader Joe’s for seasonal sprinkles they almost always have their own for Valentine’s Day! I also just discovered a new brand at Walmart that also has very affordable dye-free sprinkles!!Even swapping just one or two ingredients can make a big difference, and it keeps baking feeling fun instead of stressful.
