Valentine’s Day Cookie Pie

Since becoming new parents to twins, our idea of a “date night” has changed a lot—and honestly, we’ve come to love it. These days, date night usually means staying in, putting the babies to sleep, changing into spit-up-free comfy clothes, and making something together in the kitchen.

One of our go-to desserts for date night at home is a cookie pie. It’s easy, a warm and cozy dessert and meant to be shared.. So for Valentine’s Day this year, I decided to lean all the way in and make a fully Valentine’s-themed version.

Now, the health coach in me was definitely side-eyeing the amount of candy I added to this thing. But if I’m being honest, sleep deprivation had me craving sugar more than usual—and I kind of went overboard. If you’re in that new-parent phase, you probably understand completely.

That said, if you prefer healthier ingredients or want to swap in better-for-you options, I’ve rounded up some alternative candy brands in an Amazon list that you can browse and customize to your preferences.

The cookie dough itself is my go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe, one that’s been in my family for years. It was my grandma’s recipe, and every Christmas I make a ridiculous amount of these cookies. This past year was extra special because it was the first time my boys got to try them (they were infants last Christmas), and they went absolutely crazy for them.

The sugar in this recipe is already a little lower than most traditional chocolate chip cookies, and with all the candy added here, it is probably a good thing! Especially if you're making for your little ones to enjoy with you! But if not, I bet you and your husband will totally love having this as a treat all to yourselves!

Valentine’s Day Cookie Pie Recipe

Yield: 1 cookie pie (serves 6–8)
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Bake Time: 25–30 minutes
Total Time: 40–45 minutes
Equipment: Cast iron skillet (10–12 inch)

Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 sticks salted butter, softened

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • ½ cup cane sugar

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 2 eggs

  • ½ tablespoon vanilla extract

  • 8 oz chocolate chips

Valentine’s Toppings

  • Reese’s Peanut Butter Hearts

  • Peanut Butter M&M’s

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F.

  1. Butter your cast iron skillet generously and set aside.

  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugars until light and fluffy.

  3. Add eggs, vanilla extract, and baking soda, mixing until well combined.

  4. Slowly mix in the flour until a thick cookie dough forms.

  5. Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.

  6. Scoop the dough into the prepared skillet and press it down evenly to cover the entire pan. (Your hands will get messy—and that’s part of the fun.)

  7. Top with Reese’s hearts and Peanut Butter M&M’s. Gently press them into the dough—no need to push too hard, as they’ll sink in while baking.

  8. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the edges are set and the center is slightly soft.

  9. Let cool slightly, slice, and enjoy warm—preferably after the kids are asleep. 💕
